Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (“CJRS”) Print
Where employers have been unable to maintain their workforce because their operations have been adversely affected by coronavirus, the employer can furlough employees and claim a grant to cover a portion of their wages costs. The amount claimable started at 80% of the employees’ usual salary, subject to a maximum salary of £2,500 per month. In July 2020 this was reduced to 70%, and 60% from August 2020. The grant was increased back to 80% in October 2020 and will remain at 80% until 30 June 2021. From 1 July 2021 the grant will be 70% of wages for hours not worked up to £2,187.50. This reduces to 60% from 1 August 2021 up to £1,875. The employer must contribute 10% of wages not worked up to £312.50 for July 2021, and 20% up to £625 for August and September 2021. At present it is anticipated that the Job Retention Scheme will terminate at the end of September 2021.
